What's involved

Out of hours means evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Many practices hand their out of hours care to a separate emergency clinic, which may be some miles away.

The fee is for being seen. Any treatment, tests, medicines or an overnight stay are charged on top, so the final bill is often much higher.

If you are worried about your pet, ring first. The clinic can tell you whether to come straight in, and roughly what the visit will cost.

Each price is taken from the practice's own website or price list. Prices change, so the practice's own quote is the one that counts.
